The 2025 notional Federal Base Rate is 4.400 €

The German notional Federal Base Rate (BBFW) lets you now calculate the reimbursement for therapies and treatment in 2025.

Every German in-patient hospital treatment gets reimbursed by the health insurances on basis of the aG-DRG-system. The reimbursement is calculated by the cost weight assigned to a DRG multiplied by the federal base rate (BBFW). Each federal state has its own base rate, all of them make up the average federal base rate.
The federal base rate is used to calculate reimbursement in reimbursement analyses or coding brochures.

The official BBFW is published by InEK at the end of March. To be able to calculate reimbursement information for the new year earlier the German Medical Technology Association (BVMed) has been working with experts for several years to annually estimate the value. This estimate is called the notional BBFW. For the year 2025 it is € 4.400.

Important note: This year’s notional federal base rate may deviate significantly from the official base rate published by the end of March. At this point it is difficult to estimate the effects of the new Hospital Care Improvement Act. Due to these uncertainties, the BVMed recommends using the current value with caution and being prepared for future adjustments.
