The German NUB procedure was introduced by Section 6 (2) KHEntgG to enable hospitals to separately bill health insurances for innovative procedures that are not yet reimbursed under the aG-DRG system.
The main objective of the NUB procedure is to offer hospitals the opportunity for negotiations with health insurances for the reimbursement of specific new examination and treatment methods (NUB). A prerequisite for those negotiations is that the InEK has assigned an NUB status 1 to the treatment in question. For this the hospital needs to apply, the status is valid for one year.
