The German Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (GKV) expect the Corona crisis to result in a financial gap of roughly 16 billion Euros for the GKV. To close this gap in the healthcare fund, the BMG suggests using 8 billion Euros of reserves from the health insurances and 5 billion Euro contributions from the federal government. The rest is supposed to be balanced by an increase of additional contributions to the health insurance share of about 0,2%, paid by the insurants.
